In April of 1980, James P. Riva shot and killed his grandmother as she sat in her wheelchair in Marshfield, Massachusetts. He then consumed her blood as it poured from her wounds before burning her home to the ground.

Riva was a troubled child born in 1957, who believed that his grandmother was a vampire and was sucking his blood when he slept. He had difficulty with authority and a morbid curiosity about death. What started with the murder and exsanguination of animals soon led to his grandmother’s death. Why? Because a vampire told him to do it. Where did he meet this vampire? In Florida.

Riva also claimed that he too, was a vampire. Guess it just runs in the blood?

He’s been serving time in prison since his conviction in 1981. In that time, he’s attacked a prison guard and sent threatening letters to his mother, though he also managed to earn academic degrees when he wasn't being a super creep. Parole has been denied twice.
