The Umbrella singer has been in the news almost constantly for the last few years; alleged drug use, photographs with banned animals and risqué pictures are among her many social media mishaps. Her Instagram account is often the source of controversy, be it due to her scantily clad clothing, or because she looks like she is smoking something other than a cigarette. Back in 2013 Rihanna took a selfie with a monkey which was a protected species in Thailand (where the image was taken). This led to two arrests for people accused of selling the animals despite the ban. Rihanna escaped without prosecution, but this is not her only mishap when it comes to social media. In 2013 she had a public dispute with abusive ex-boyfriend Chris Brown through thinly veiled digs at each other. As Rihanna does not seem to hold back on her social media accounts she has had many arguments which could best be confined to the private arena being fought in the very public realm.

The controversy has certainly helped her; she has had a string of hits and her fame remains fairly strong. However, we can't help but look at her social media accounts as little more than documenting her self destructive behaviour.
