10 Stupid Internet Hoaxes That People Actually Believed

10. Charge Your Phone In The Microwave

This crafty hoax has been making the rounds on social media and mainstream news for the last couple of days. An infographic was mocked up to look like it was created by tech giants Apple, making the ludicrous claim that the iOS8 update brings with it the ability to charge your iPhone using a household microwave. Named the very Apple-sounding €˜Wave€™, the fake announcement states that simply placing the updated iPhone into a microwave for a minute and a half will magically charge the battery up fully. In an example of hilariously bad science, new drivers in the update allow the iPhone€™s radio-baseband to synchronise with microwave frequencies. The hoax allegedly originated from the depths of 4chan, although the hoax was spread around heavily by Twitter users. Most tweets were trying to propagate the myth, but there appears to have been several by gullible iPhone users that actually frazzled their beloved phone.
