10 Stupid Things Brits Think About Americans

8. Americans Are An Irrational Bunch

http://youtu.be/OA2tWBTd4Oo This one actually gets my goat a little, because every single country at one time or another has had a firm belief in the supernatural, and in every country, this has now spread to the peripheries of the general population. Or so I thought. When you enter America, you are confronted with a great deal of people who are more than willing to tell you about the ghost that stole their wallets, or the probing they received by an amourous alien. Now, people who have read some of my previous articles will understand that I am not very religious, but what I am about to discuss will not revolve entirely around that. Many in this more secular country are very critical of the seemingly obsessive religious outpouring in America, especially in the South. Nevertheless, as long as you take a few messages and don't take all the events of the Bible as gospel, then you are more than able to believe what you like. But, let's take a look at some recent statistics. 36% of Americans believe in aliens, according to a survey by National Geographic, and of those people, around 80% believe the White House has covered up their existence, and over 10% of the country have said they have seen a UFO. That really doesn't need a punchline attached to it. Further, 46% of Americans believe creationism explains the development of the world, which is nonsensical, and 21% of Americans believe in witches, which is ridiculous (unless they do exist, in which case I didn't mean to insult them). However, the silly assumption that all Americans believe in this manner is silly, as the percentages stated have always been in the minority of the populous. But, the chunk believing such weird ideas are leaving the sane majority of the nation in the lurch. Level of Brit Stupidity: 5
