10 Terrible Role Models In Stephen King Books

7. John Coffey In The Green Mile

Biggest Crime Committed: Letting his emotions dictate his actions. Ok, so John Coffey is one of SK's best loved characters, and for good reason: his heart is in the right place and all he wants is to do good by the people around him. However, having good intentions does not redeem a man of a complete lack of common sense. How can we truly sympathise with Coffey's imminent electric chair death when it is his fault for getting thrown onto death row in the first place? Instead of crying and mushing the blood-streaked hair of the two dead girls in the field, he could have done a runner and saved himself from punishment. He could have gone off into the world, taken some time out to relieve himself of the guilt he's feeling, and then lived his whole life healing others. He's too emotional for his own good, and needs to think on his feet a little quicker before being given any responsibility over important matters.

I love Stephen King and music festivals; I eat my toast upside down; I daydream about getting married probably a bit too much; and I wish every day for a pet sausage dog puppy (who never materialises – sob).
