War Plan RedThe Objective: Estimating the requirements and potential tactics for fighting a war with and invading Great Britain. The Plan: The general consensus of the plan, which was created in the 1920s and 1930s, was that the Great Britain would initially have the upper hand, thanks to their superior Navy. The United States Army also made the assumption that British forces would use Canada as a base for a retaliatory invasion, but that the United States would ultimately be victorious after blockading the British Isles and suffocating its economy. Why it failed: The entire plan was actually just hypothetical, and never approved by President Herbert Hoover or Congress. However, it's believed that the United States Army feared the British reaction to their growing status as a super power, and the document was once described as the "most sensitive on earth". If it weren't for World War II, relations between the United States and Britain could have turned out very differently...
