10 Things Everyone Gets Wrong About The Vietnam War
3. It Is Only Known As "The Vietnam War" In The West... In Vietnam It Is Known As "The American War"
Okay so this is not entirely unique to this situation as most wars are named after the country in which they are fought, but what is known in the USA as "The Vietnam War" is referred to as "The American War" or the "Resistance War Against America" in south-east Asia. Sometimes it is even referred to as the "Second Indochina War" due to the fact it was, primarily, a civil war after all - but to refer to it as "The Vietnam War" is a very American thing to do. Other examples of this insular way nations refer to past conflicts include "The Korean War" and "The Boer War".
