10 Things Only Stephen King Fans Will Understand

7. Wanting To Travel To Maine

King was born on September 21, 1947 in a city called Portland in the U.S. State of Maine. Maine is to King what Graceland is to Elvis, an intrinsic part of the writer's work and history.

It's fairly common for fans of certain things to want to travel to the places where they were inspired or took place. Take The Elephant House cafe in Edinburgh, for example, which capitalizes on the fact that J.K. Rowling wrote some of Harry Potter there. Or one of the many Lord Of The Rings-centric tours in New Zealand. While travelling to these places generally means seeing one or two cool locations, not only is Maine the birthplace of the man himself, it's also the backdrop for many of King's classic novels. Pet Sematary? Maine. Dreamcatcher? Maine. Salem's Lot? Maine. Carrie? Maine. It? Maine. So much of King is wrapped up in Maine that it's the ultimate fan destination.
