10 Things That Have Been Completely Ruined In 2015
2. The Concept Of Movie Franchises
Look, I get it. Nostalgia is a powerful thing. I mean, this whole article is about things that the year we're currently in has ruined- of course I understand the desire to recreate the glory days of the past. Keeping a rosy-eyed view of history can help us feel more hopeful about the future. It can give us a sense of "Things were great before and they can be again!". (Though of course, things weren't that great before, we've just blocked the bad stuff out but, regardless, the point stands) So of course people decided in 2015 that simply redoing or continuing existing movie franchises was the way to go, If something is already popular, isn't it easier to just piggyback on that popularity? Creating stuff is hard! Stealing stuff- or creating "homages" to it, whatever helps you sleep at night- is so much easier and who cares if it's ultimately less rewarding? Pillage the past and build something new from the scraps! Unfortunately, 2015 made us too wise to the ways of the studios. We know what they're doing now and we will not stand for it. Sure, Jurassic World grossed $1.669 billion but people did a lot of important complaining about it so I'm sure the studio is considering it a failure. And everyone hated the Fantastic Four movie so much that 20th Century Fox... announced that they're planning a sequel in 2017. But at least we can all agree that no one liked Mad Max: Fury Road and... what's that? It was a box office and critical success? Huh. Ok so maybe this point may have some flaws.
