If you say this to anyone in any context, they're likely to be offended. But when you say this to a first time parent of a new born, it's going to make them lose confidence in themselves and they could believe that they're a bad parent. But everyone has to learn! So instead of placing doubt in their minds, maybe you should be helping them out. Everyone has their own different styles and techniques and for the love of everything, it's the mother's decision if she wants to breastfeed or not. If it's too sore or the baby isn't responding to the breast, don't call her out for being a terrible mother.
