10 Things You Didn't Know About Disney's The Haunted Mansion

1. Prepare To Die

This one is more of a fan-theory than actually confirmed as being part of the Haunted Mansion canon, but it makes a hell of a lot of sense and fits with the dark theme of the ride. It basically states that the idea of your journey on the ride is that you see a bunch of ghosts who don't particularly want much to do with you, and then at the end you commit suicide. Yeah, it's pretty bleak, especially for Disney. The narrator, or Ghost Host, says that the only way to escape the Mansion is to die, showing his own hanged corpse to back this up. Then, as your journey continues, you make your way up the attic and the cart you're in spins around and goes backward, and you seem to fall to your death. After this, all of the ghosts are a lot more willing to come closer to you, and throw a party in celebration of your demise and entry to the afterlife. The Cast Members actually used to give out death certificates to those visitors in-the-know enough to ask for them (you'd ask before the ride, and collect them afterwards), but the spread of this online put a stop to it.
