10 Things You Didn't Know About Epcot

9. The Big Umbrella

Spaceship Earth is the huge geodesic sphere at the entrance and stands proudly as the icon of Epcot.

Often the structure is known as the golf ball and despite its spherical shape, if you were to stand underneath Spaceship Earth you would never get wet.

Instead of being made with one solid material, the skin of Spaceship Earth consists of 11,520 individual triangles. In between these triangles is a drainage system which prevents water from running down the sides.

In those rainy afternoons water that lands on Spaceship Earth will not fall onto passing guests but instead will run through a drainage system and into World Showcase Lagoon.
