10 Things You Didn't Know About Epcot

7. Disney Built It With A Lot Of Perspective

World Showcase sits around the lagoon at the centre of Epcot. 11 different countries are represented with America playing host.

Part of the charm of World Showcase is the ability to be almost transported into the different countries. One way they do this is with some cultural icons, such as the Eiffel Tower in the France pavilion off in the distance.

Imagineers at Epcot built their own Eiffel Tower 1/10 to scale of the real one in France and made it larger at the bottom and smaller at the top. This type of forced perspective was also used on Cinderella Castle at the Magic Kingdom.

The American Adventure pavilion does something similar but almost in reverse. The building is actually 5 stories tall but the clever use of large windows makes it appear only less stories, much more in keeping with the buildings of the era.

Apart from having to house all the animatronics and staging for the show, the building needs to be so large so that it can be seen clearly across the lagoon. After all America is the host with all the countries around its distinguished guests.
