10 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About The Harry Potter Books
7. Rowling Chose King’s Cross Because It Was Where Her Parents Met
Every year, Hogwarts students make their way to King’s Cross Station on the first of September. When they arrive, they have to run at the barrier between Platform Nine and Platform Ten in order to access Platform Nine and Three-Quarters.
This location wasn’t chosen at random, as Rowling’s mother and father met here when they were younger. The pair of them had recently joined the Royal Navy and were travelling from London to Scotland, which also happens to be where Hogwarts is located. King’s Cross, therefore, has always been a romantic, magical place for Rowling.
And it probably isn’t a coincidence that Harry and Ginny also meet at this famous London station in the sixth chapter of The Philosopher's Stone.
