10 Things Your Body Does That Science Can't Explain

4. Sex

No, we don't need to sit the scientists down and explain the birds and the bees. We know why we have sex in terms of its usefulness at keeping the human race going, but we're not entirely sure why it is the way it is.

A great number of earth's inhabitants reproduce sexually. That is to say, with a male and a female coming together to produce offspring. But, if you think about it, how is it an advantage to have two different types of the same species, male and female, that are incapable of producing offspring without input from the other?

Why have twice the amount of people, using up twice the amount of resources, to produce one offspring at a time (twins notwithstanding)?

It's not like it isn't possible to produce sprogs on your own, many creatures in the animal kingdom are hermaphroditic meaning that they have both male and female reproductive capabilities. Okay, this might not mean that they can impregnate themselves, but it does mean that the entire population could theoretically be preggo at once.

There are even some flatworms that can inseminate themselves, although this includes plunging their penises into their own head, which is a slightly less sexy way to reproduce.

Either way, science is still a bit shaky on exactly why reproductive kinky-time has to be such a boy-meets-girl scenario.
