https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BepyTSzueno Seriously, what the hell did he think was going to happen? When Austrian tailor Franz Reichelt invented a "parachute suit" in 1912, he was so confident his invention would work he jumped from the Eiffel Tower to prove it. It was, essentially, just a coat; so he fell to his death. The test was supposed to be conducted with dummies, but attempts by friends and spectators to dissuade him did not avail. Right before his jump, Reichelt stated: "You are going to see how my seventy-two kilos and my parachute will give your arguments the most decisive of denials." He must have felt pretty silly as he saw the Parisian ground approaching at a fretful speed.
