The aye-aye is awesome, but it makes its way onto the ugly list because it is the weirdest of all the lemurs. Thats right, those adorably fluffy primates that you wouldnt think would ever be associated with an ugly list one of them is. The aye-aye has a very special way of hunting. It loves grubs, and grubs annoyingly live inside tree trunks. During the night, the aye-aye is awake as much of the forest sleeps, and using its long, skinny middle finger, it tap, tap, taps across the bark, listening for the echo with its cat like ears. When it finds one, it bores a hole in the wood using its fingers and ever-growing teeth, then uses its finger as a rod to fish for grubs. Unfortunately, like many other lemur species in Madagascar it is listed as Endangered by the IUCN. It has suffered from a great deal of habitat loss, and this forces more aye-ayes each year into open farmland and village areas. This isnt good, as it is considered evil by the Malagasy people, believing it may be an omen of impending death that must be destroyed. There are some pretty freaky photos out there of aye-ayes, but the hairless gremlins are youngsters, they mature into a fluffy, fuzzier around the edges version that makes the aye-ayes appearance on this list a little more questionable. They do say the ugliest human babies grow up to be the best looking, after all.
