10 Unfinished Stephen King Novels (That He Should Definitely Finish)

4. Welcome To Clearwater

Very little is known about Welcome to Clearwater other than the title. The novel was aborted in 1976, and was referenced in several early companions and guides to the works of Stephen King.

So why would anyone really urge King to revisit it, when there are other, better known unfinished works of the horror master out there?

For one, it's the very fact that so little is known about the book. Fans know about Wimsey, King's attempt at writing an English detective novel. They know he has taken a crack at a western (possibly two: in addition to the untitled western featuring the death of an unlucky pig farmer, the unfinished, abandoned novel George D.X. McArdle is rumored to be a dark, humourous western). However, the fact that nothing is known about Welcome to Clearwater is intriguing.

Second, the name - specifically Clearwater. While it's not certain that this is a reference to Clearwater, FL, King set his more recent novel Duma Key in the state of Florida, as the author spends a fair amount of time there. Was Welcome to Clearwater an attempt to leave the his familiar Maine locale early in his career? If so, we'd love to see it!
