2. The Plant

The only work on the list where a substantial portion has actually been published and is widely available.

The Plant started life as a serial story Stephen King gave out in lieu of Christmas cards. Cast aside for years, he returned to it in the early 2000s, publishing installments on his website and charging $1 per installment, entirely on the honour system. However, he never finished the story, though you can still find the existing installments on his official site.

Fans for years have wanted him to finish telling the tale, which is essentially his version of The Little Shop of Horrors. In the story, a rejected author sends a publishing company a seemingly innocuous ivy plant - however, it turns out to be something of a vampire vine.

King's website now states the following: If the inspiration does return, at some time in the future this project will be completed but the format for its publication may be different.

Lets hope the inspiration does indeed return.
