10 Utterly Disturbing Ways That Obsessed Fans Go Too Far

10. Lunatic Online Hate Campaigns

Anyone who€™s ever browsed through the gossip magazines at a supermarket checkout €“ or accidentally clicked on a TMZ link while googling for pictures of that young lady off The Hunger Games in her pants €“ has probably read far, far too much already about the extent to which many pop music fans will go to in protecting the objects of their affection. The two worst and most horrifying examples of this are of course Beliebers and Directioners, otherwise known to sane people over the age of thirteen as Justin Bieber and One Direction fans, respectively. Jazz prodigy Esperanza Spalding found that out the hard way in 2011, when she snagged the Best New Artist Grammy out of Bieber€™s cold, wet paws. Hordes of Beliebers took to the Internet in foul-mouthed protest, sadly including a significant number of teenagers who took exception to Spalding€™s multi-cultural heritage.e That€™s a nice way of saying that she took a lot of racist flak for being part African-American, part Native American, and part Latino. Her Wikipedia page was also thoroughly vandalised. Screen Shot 2014 09 07 At 10 33 40 Then there€™s the time that Bieber fans pilloried a fellow Belieber €“ an Italian girl singled out at a show to be serenaded by the baby-faced star. Collectively deciding that she wasn€™t worthy, her fellow fans ripped her to shreds online: locating her name and contact information and spreading it around with the threats and vile name-calling. Imagine how they react when they find out that Bieber€™s actually seeing someone. Well, if you€™re Caitlin Beadles or Selena Gomez, you don€™t have to imagine. Even platonic buddy Kim Kardashian has received death threats. Directioners are no less insane about the living hairstyles they€™re devoted to. In one of her many poorly-judged interviews where she flung around casual chatter about her fellow pop stars, Lorde may or may not have mentioned One Direction. Their fans then leapt to Twitter to send the star and her boyfriend racist abuse. Then there€™s the terrifying tweeted threats that GQ Magazine received when it published five One Direction covers, each with a different member€™s face, but with pithy taglines beneath each one. Don€™t ever playfully tease that Harry Styles is €˜out all night to get lucky€™, kids. Just don€™t.Screen Shot 2014 09 07 At 10 31 01 A friend of Styles tweets a picture of him innocently kissing her head? Twitter hate and accusations of sluthood. Zayn Malik asks someone out while on tour in Australia? Directioners find out her name and terrorise her until she calls off the date, in fear for her life.
