4. Nuwaubianism

In the late 1980s Dwight York - not former Manchester United player Dwight Yorke, but occasional musician and record producer Dwight York - founded the Nuwaubianism nation.

Taking inspiration from black supremacist groups, ancient Egypt and - of course - aliens, York taught of the divinity of the ancient Egyptians and their pyramids and even had two built in his church's compound in Eatonton, Georgia, which followers called Tama-Re. (By the way, any time your religion is housed in a compound, that should set off a series of red flags.) One of the two pyramids acted as a place of meditation and worship and the other was a shopping centre.

Key tenets of the Church changed many times with York having inconsistent ideas as to what the focus of his religion was. One of his more notable proclamations was that Jackie Kennedy (wife of the assassinated president) gave birth to the Devil's son, with help from the Illuminati. The child was supposedly raised by Richard Nixon and now lives somewhere in Belgium. This guy wants to tick every crazy box he can.

The church has been in a severe decline since 2004, when York was imprisoned for 135 years for child molestation, racketeering and other financial crimes.

Wesley Cunningham-Burns hasn't written a bio just yet, but if they had... it would appear here.
