10 Weirdest Lovecraft Stories Every Horror Fan Should Read
3. The Dreams In The Witch House
Let's be honest here for a second: we've all had the nightmares before the maths tests. You know how it is, the numbers and equations floating through your mind, disturbing your otherwise peaceful slumber and leaving you awake and sweating, screaming about long division into the dead of night. For Walter Gilman, however, these nightmares soon became a disturbing journey across time, space and the very nature of reality.
After deciding to take up lodgings in the town of Arkham to study mathematics and folklore at (you guessed it) Miskatonic University, an advertised "witch house" rumoured to be cursed is an all to enticing opportunity for Gilman. With the room's dimensions being so intensely warped and the frequent and bizarre dreams that he begins to experience, transporting him to unknown realms and through doors between realities, it soon becomes clear to him - after somehow bringing back a souvenir from a dream - that the curse of the house may be more than just a rumour.
One of the more intensely science-fiction stories, equally as cosmic as it is supernatural and definitely embodies the weird-fiction brand to a fault.
