11 Breathtakingly Beautiful Places That Will Kill You Horribly

1. Mount Everest - Himalayas

Ah, Everest. From this distance it looks like a crisp, pristine environment, but that thing is positively littered with dead people.

Climbing Everest is one of those things that is on a lot of people's bucket lists, but the combination of the cold, the exhaustion and the paper-thin atmosphere up there could well turn that mountain into your final resting place.

The air up there is so thin that, even if you take an oxygen supply with you, by the time you reach over 26,000 feet, you slowly begin to die. It turns out that humans just aren't meant to thrive at the cruising altitude of a passenger jet and with every minute spent in the death zone (that's the actual name, FYI), you become more disorientated and less able to move.

The other problem is that getting bodies down off the mountain is even harder than going up it, so many of Everest's victims are still up there. It's estimated that there are at least 200 bodies up there.

Even more gruesomely, some of them are even used as route markers, like the famous Green Boots.

Cause of death: Hypoxia, hypothermia and exposure.
