Lets face it, most people adore bacon. Some love it to such an extent that the concept of never eating the salty pig product again is simply unfathomable. For those bacon lovers, its not so much the vegetarian thing that shocks them, its merely the idea of removing this one meat item from your diet. If you said you were becoming a veggie but still have a bacon butty now and again, they would consider this to be perfectly acceptable. Although, for anyone who has actually tried meat-free bacon, you can see where these people are coming from. While most meatless imitations of animal products manage to replicate the taste and consistency pretty well, bacon is the exception; usually this seems to be trying to replicate the insole of a shoe more than anything else.
