1. Bodiam Castle

It has a moat! What more do you need? Bodiam castle is located in East Sussex and was erected to defend the town against the French during the One Hundred Years War - the war that wasn't even one hundred years long. Made from sandstone, the castle was built by one of Henry III's knights for defensive purposes, but it is now a tourist attraction run by the National Trust and is visited by more than 150,000 people each year.
