12 Dangerous Things Anti-Vaxxers Believe That Are Actually Child Abuse

6. Chemical Castration

Help me out here – what’s worst? The parents who chemically castrate their children as a treatment for autism, or the people who convince parents to chemically castrate their children as a treatment for autism?

If it wasn’t clear enough, the world has a surplus of f*cking idiots. Just saying.

Pioneered by embarrassments to the human race, father and son team Mark and David Geier, Leuprorelin (trade name Lupron) is a drug with several applications including the treatment of breast and prostate cancer, uterine fibroids, to treat precocious puberty or to suppress puberty for transgender youth and as part of the In Vitro Fertilization process. Clearly, it has earned its spot the WHO Model List of Essential Medicines as one of the most important medications needed in a basic health system.

As you probably have guessed already, it definitely isn’t approved for use as a treatment for autism.

Like all things pseudoscience, conspiracy and woo – there’s no supporting evidence for this treatment in relation to anything to do with autism. And like all things pseudoscience, conspiracy and woo, someone is marking money from gullible parents. The Geiers have developed a protocol for treating autism that uses the drug, that for the purpose the Geiers use it, acts as a form of chemical castration. And they make big money.

When treating a child, the Geiers order several dozen lab tests, costing upwards of $12,000, if the Geiers advised Lupron treatments, the protocol calls for using 10 times the daily dose ordinarily used to treat precocious puberty. The therapy costs approximately $5,000 per month. They recommend starting treatment on children as young as possible, and say that some need treatment throughout adulthood.

Yet "Big Pharma" is bad for turning a profit. Go figure.
