12 Insane Real-Life Prison Breaks You Won't Believe

1. Richard Lee McNair - Mailed Himself Out

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBEVJZyB_m4 Richard Lee McNair may not have the most intricate plan like Abagnale did, but he was just as slippery as anybody who's managed to escape from prison. McNair was being questioned by police over a murder, but he managed to squeeze the cuffs off his hands and burst free. He was quickly caught, and jailed. He then had several close calls when it came to escaping, but his second success was when he managed to scramble through the prison air vents to freedom, though he was eventually caught. His third escape is by far the most insane. First of all, he managed to bury himself under mail bags and packages before being taken away with the post. He literally mailed himself out of jail. One of the most remarkable aspects of his bid for freedom was after he was stopped by a police officer. The officer noticed McNair - who obviously fit the escapee's description - running along the train tracks. McNair convinced him that he was a local builder jogging for the afternoon without any ID to back up his story. However, the alibi stuck. After a 10 minute chat, with the officer clearly oblivious to the fact that he was talking to the man he was looking for, McNair bid goodbye and calmly walked away, all of which is documented in the video above. McNair was later apprehended after being spotted by a rookie officer, and while his crazy escape antics bought him extra time on the outside, he's now serving two life sentences.
