12 Invaluable Life Lessons We Learnt From Stephen King Novels

3. Be Careful What You Wish For ... - Pet Semetary

It may sound cliché, but it's so true. You wish for good health, and your friend gets run over by a clown car (see point #12 above). You ask for money and somewhere, some poor schmuck is filling a trash can lid with his evening meal. Why? Because here's my theory: existence can be reduced down to the laws of conservation of mass and energy €“ in an isolated system, energy or mass is neither created or destroyed, it's just redistributed. Same thing applies to life. Every choice in life has conditions that affect the totality of existence. There's no such thing as a free lunch. Grieving Louis Creed's mind was in no shape to consider the cost or ramifications of trying to resurrect his dead son. Ergo, his desire overwhelmed his common sense and instead of his son, something evil was let loose on the world, breaking one of the fundamental laws of nature.

John Kirk is a Teacher-Librarian and currently a History/English Teacher with the Toronto District School Board. But mostly, John teaches Geek. Comics, Sci-Fi (Notably Star Trek), Fantasy and Role-Playing and table-top games all make up part of John’s repertoire, There is a whole generation of nerds-in-embryo who rely on him to make sense of it all, to teach that with great power comes great responsibility, that the force will be with us always and that a towel IS the most useful thing to have in one’s possession. When John isn’t in the classroom, he can be found in his basement writing comic reviews for www.popmythology.com and features for Roddenberry Entertainment's www.1701news.com.
