12 Invaluable Life Lessons We Learnt From Stephen King Novels
9. The Danger Of Religious Extremism - Carrie
Speaking of religion Carrie is definitely another book that gives us more life insights, particularly in respect to the dangers of religious extremism. Poor Carrie all she wanted was to get answers to questions that young people always have, like: who cares about me? Why am I like this or how do I fit in? In response, poor Carrie was subjected to the religious version of: shut up and do as you're told; essentially the kill-switch to youthful expression and the feeding tube for resentment and rebellion. Is it any wonder she turned out like she did? Obviously, extremism in any form simply isn't a good idea. When one's perspective is polarized, that disallows any free thought, open-mindedness or any sense of empathy. Religious extremism is probably the worst. This sense of guilt-ridden closed-mindedness simply leads to intolerance. Let's face it, with or without telekinetic powers, Carrie was destined to go postal at some point. One can't live with that type of oppression; too bad she couldn't get out before it was too late.
