12 Reasons You're Wrong About King Richard III

7. He Was The Last King Of England To Die In Battle... Trying To Nobly Defend His Throne

Richard III Death King Richard III's body was discovered under a car park in Leicester city centre, which used to be the site of the Church of the Grey Friars - and that is where he was buried hastily in 1485 once he was killed at the Battle of Bosworth Field nearby. When Henry Tudor's (latterly King Henry VII) forces killed Richard III at Bosworth, the latter became the last British monarch to be killed in battle. The denouement of the Wars of the Roses, Richard III's death came as he was attempting to defend his crown against the usurper Henry Tudor - who wanted to remove the Yorkist king from power and reinstate the Lancastrians instead. How many other kings by the 15th Century would have been willing to actually put their own body on the line to retain the throne, rather than just send others to do their bidding?
