Really... this is true.
A comic strip depicting Mickey Mouse repeatedly trying to end it all was released in the 1930's. According to Mouseplanet, Walt Disney himself came up with the idea for the strip.
In the story arch called "Mr Slicker and the Egg Robbers", Mickey, after wrongly believing that Minnie is cheating on him, decides that life isn't worth living. He tries several ways to commit suicide with so called comedic outcomes.
When trying to drown he decides against because the water is too cold. When trying to gas himself a squirrel steals it to blow up balloons.
Finally, when attempting to hang himself in a tree, the animals of the woods change his mind and he instead used the rope to form a swing.
A happy ending to this tale of woe.
