12 Things You Didn't Know About Paul Walker

9. He Had A Passion For Marine Biology

It's unsurprising that Walker's favourite superhero is in fact Aquaman, because he is a great lover of the ocean, majoring in marine biology at community college, being an avid surfer, starring in 2005 seafaring adventure Into the Blue largely because it allowed him plenty of time in the water, and later heading up a National Geographic series where he helped catch and tag great white sharks. One of the show's scientists, Dr. Michael Domeier, became friends with Paul, and following his death mentioned that the actor considered quitting acting to become a marine biologist. Domeier said, "He would call me in the middle of the night and say, 'Hey, I want to quit acting. I want to go back to school. Can you help me?' And I€™d talk him off the ledge and go, 'Paul, that€™s a really bad idea. You can have much more of an influence on these topics as a celebrity. Let€™s work together. I can help you, give you talking points.'" In addition to all this, in 2006 he became a board member of the ocean conservationist group the Billfish Foundation, and up until the end of his life, was still determined to eventually work in the field, though sadly he never got the chance.
