10. Billy And Chris Kill Carrie - Carrie

They got into his car and he started it up. When he popped on the headlights, Chris began to scream, hands in fists up to her cheeks. Billy felt it at the same time: something in his mind (carrie carrie carrie carrie carrie) a presence. Carrie was standing in front of them perhaps seventy feet away. The high beams picked her out in ghastly horror-movie blacks and whites, dripping and clotted with blood. Now much of it was her own. The hilt of the butcher knife still protruded from her shoulder... She stood swaying, her arms thrown out like the arms of a stage hypnotist, and she began to totter towards them.
This whole scene is one long breath-holding nail-biting end to Carrie and her woes. Billy shortly mows her down in his car, leaving her for dead on the sidewalk, where virtuous Sue finds her body later on. Carrie's character is not entirely likeable, yet she's the one the reader is rooting for. For Billy and Chris, the one's who ruined her life anyway, to be the ones to kill her only serves as a final push in your loyalty towards Carrie. Even though she's now dead, and was creepy as hell, she's one of those characters you won't forget in a hurry. Her rage in itself is scary enough to give you nightmares when you finally put the book down.
