13 Scottish Phrases And What They Mean

12. "We're A' Jock Thompson's Bairns"

Translation: We're All Equals This can either mean we're all Scottish or we're all children of God, so regardless, everyone is born as equals. If you haven't heard of 'bairns' then that means children, as does 'weans' as both are common when referring to kids. Jock is a term that is now used as a derogatory slur by the English when referring to Scots, but it did used to be a Scottish nickname for men once upon a time.
