14 Internet Memes We're Totally Obsessed With Using
12. "What If I Told You?"
Bearing on the subject of questions being raised, whether right or wrong, the "What If I Told You?" meme has been created to handle the same pressure of said questions. Taking a spin off the classic The Matrix scene where Morpheus discusses with Neo the shocking values behind the Matrix and its purpose, the meme is all about clutching that classic phrase, "What if I told you?", and employing it as a meme dedicated to asking humorous queries based off pop culture and today's media-induced world. The meme briskly became a cult hit, and is used more often nowadays than when it was conceived. This is primarily because we can relate to it; as today's generation thrives with questions and unassuming logic, we look to answer those questions by way of using Morpheus's own logic to search out a definitive answer. Usually a definitive answer is hardly found, but instead we're left with a perplexing and blurred estimation of the inevitable truth. For instance, "what if I told you that Bohemian Rhapsody is not the only Queen song?" Or "what if I told you that the president neither creates nor enforces laws?" As a culture we look to find answers and passive logic, and usually through the Impermex lenses of Morpheus's sunglasses do we endeavour to search out what comprises those answers.
