When its first store opened in Roseville, Minnesota in 1962, Target called itself "a store you can be proud to shop in, a store you can have confidence in, a store that is fun to shop and exciting to visit." Are not those exact feelings of pride, confidence, and excitement felt by every Minneapolitan in Target? Like on an almost biological level? We do live on sacred ground, being both the birthplace and headquarters of the corporation. When we enter a Target, it feels like coming home. But what if this loyalty is blinding us to certain truths? Like, why do we love Target but ridicule the uncomfortably similar discount retailer Walmart? Actually, thats a whole conversation.
