Another member of rock and pop music royalty, Sting is a man who is known across the globe, both as a solo artist and with his bandmates, The Police. He's always been somehow cooler than most peers, as he successfully managed to make a white guy singing reggae music acceptable without inspiring a mass epidemic of cringing from the general population. What helps his Fonzie-factor is the name, because "Sting" creates a sense of mystery, and you fittingly never seem to hear that much about the personal life of the man, so the single-worded non-name evokes intrigue and interest without revealing too much, very clever stuff. What is distinctly less cool, however, is the name Gordon. Gordon is a name which, in music, you fully expect to be found belonging to a backing member of a folk band. For example, I doubt any of you would question it if I were to tell you that the regular drummer for The Proclaimers is named Gordon. It would be simply unimaginable that a man named Gordon would create such an air of untouchable mystery in the manner that Sting has, whilst also attracting but evading attention of the paparazzi. We could have had Bono or The Edge in here too, but frankly, I'm not sure that Bono and Paul Hewson were ever the same person, just when the latter died in an unfortunate radioactive charity accident, Bono was born.
