15 Incredible Websites That Will Rule 2014

2. Tumblr

As a student, I claimed that Tumblr would become one of the biggest websites on the web. My instructor essentially rebuked me for saying such a thing, but years later, it turns out I was right (she still hasn't responded to my emails). Since 2007, Tumblr has served as one of the Internet's most image-driven blog hosting sites and has faced a lot of new changes in the past few years. Most notable of these changes is being acquired by Yahoo! last summer, which has left some people wondering if Tumblr is now going to decline in a fashion similar to Flickr. But the microblogging platform continues to thrive, so far, under Yahoo! with almost 170 million blogs currently being hosted. In just 30 seconds, you too can start hosting your own "tumblr" with images, text posts, and videos. What has made Tumblr successful has been its ability to allow users the freedom to customize their experience on the site. It gives you all of the tools you need to publish a good blog or just digest and re-share great content. You can even go as far as to say that it is the perfect fusion of social media, news aggregation, and web publishing. Why It's Going To Rule... One of the main benefits of being purchased by Yahoo! is that Tumblr now has more resources than ever before. Now is the time that we will likely see these benefits being executed as the new year brings about interesting changes for the shortform blogging website. Also, we're probably not going to get sick of live-blogging gifs of our favorite television shows anytime soon.
