15 Surprising Hidden Meanings Behind Rude Words

11. Goddamn

What it means: A reaction to something that happens whether it's good or bad. When to use it: When you have a particularly great burrito: "Oh, goddamn. This is some good sh*t." Or when someone really fine just walked past you and your vocabulary completely deserted you: "Goddaammmmmn!" Where it came from: A compound of the words 'God' and 'damn', this phrase was introduced into the English language by the French. That's right, they gave us a kissing style and a word to blaspheme. Oh, and they used this phrase to refer to the English as a way of condemning them. It is important to note that the French and the English are now good friends. During the Hundred Years War, the French would refer to the English as 'les goddems' because of the fact that they would swear an awful lot, and the fact that they kept on trying to kill each other probably didn't help.
