15 Terrifying Animals That Are Way Smaller Than You
2. The Africanised (Killer) Bee
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e7fUXw-5T2QOn one hand, human life is completely dependent on bees due to their pollination habits. If the bees die out, humanity would run out of food in less than five years. However, as useful as they are, there’s also a subspecies of bee whose name is synonymous with fear: the Africanised bee, also known as the killer bee.
Created from a scientific cross-breeding experiment, these bees, which looked almost 100% identical to their tamer European cousins, these bees have increased defensive and aggressive triggers that make them incredibly dangerous. They are far more likely to swarm in the event of a perceived threat (and when they do, they send out way more drones to do the stinging), and they pursue their target for far longer and further than other bees.
Worse yet, there have been reports of sting victims jumping into water to escape the bees, only for the insects to wait for them to resurface and resume stinging.
Like other small animals on this list, it’s the killer bee’s aggressiveness and determination to continue the pursuit that makes it such a feared creature. No matter how much you swat and scream, more bees keep coming, buzzing and stinging. The fact that they’re so close to home for some people, and that they can be provoked by the most insignificant of vibrations, makes them one of the most terrifying creatures on the entire planet.
