To be honest, we're not really sure how this rumor even got started. On the face of it, it seems fairly obvious that a woman could get pregnant on her period. Now, the likelihood of getting pregnant while menstruating is debatable but the fact that it can definitely happen is not up for debate at all. It's also possible to mistake breakthrough bleeding €” spotting between your periods €” for a regular period. So you may be bleeding right at the time of ovulation, when you're most fertile and not even know it. So it should go without saying but having unprotected sex at anytime is risky.
