15 Weird Christmas Foods You Hope You Won't See This Holiday

2. Lutefisk

This gelatinous fish is a traditional dish in some Nordic countries and is made from aged or dried fish treated with lye, which is also used in treating olives and tinned oranges. The fish swells during its lye bath and loses half of its protein content, which is what makes it like jelly. Sounds lovely, doesn't it? If you do decide to make this for your holiday celebration, just remember to clean your pan after you cook it. Lutefisk left overnight will cling like the Dickens and will more often than not destroy your silverware. Which seems an almighty compromise for something that is barely even edible.
