17 Body Parts You Didn't Know Had A Name

6. Canthus

Your canthus is the corner on either side of the eye, right where the upper and lower lids come together.

Quite why this bit needs a name is anyone's guess.

5. Lacrimal Caruncle

On the flip side, the little red blob in the inner canthus of your eye is called the lacrimal caruncle and it's where your tears are made.

This, along with the Plica semilunaris, which is that little membrane just next to it, are actually thought to be the vestigial leftovers from your "third eyelid". Lots of other animals on Earth still have one of these, and it can cover their whole eye and allows them to protect their eyes whilst still being able to see. For whatever reason, we evolved to get rid of ours.
