Death: 22 January 2008 Heath Ledger was a remarkable Australian actor who was successful not only for his acting abilities but for his likeability. Whilst he is known for many roles, his most prominent is probably that of the Joker in the Dark Knight Rises. He won a number of awards for this role and it's pretty much now a legendary cinematic portrayal, and rightly so. After filming the Dark Knight Rises, Ledger was working on The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus where he was finding it difficult to sleep. He was completely exhausted and took prescribed drugs which he unfortunately overdosed, and died from combined drug intoxication. Heath Ledger was only just coming out of the teenage rom com stage with his performances in Brokeback Mountain and The Dark Knight Rises; he clearly had a lot more to give in terms of his acting abilities. He was always so likeable in all of his films and there was a void in Hollywood after his death.
