Myth. This isn't something that you'd want to imagine but there is a myth surrounding drowning as it being an almost euphoric and calming way to go. In reality, you're terrified. You are completely helpless in an environment that is completely alien to you and your body isn't adapted to survive in any way. You can't call for help, you can't draw attention to yourself because your arms automatically push down against the water and you're suffocating. The only difference in suffocating in the water is that you can't move around as much because of the pressure of the water and your sense of panic that will overcome you before you lose consciousness.
