It's probably because you know that it isn't real so you don't feel emotionally connected, but then how do you explain your reaction to when Fred Weasley died? Instead of turning a loved one away when they open up to you, listen to them. It's going to happen to all of us at some point so at least bring some comfort to others before it happens to them. You'll need to help them get their affairs in order, arrange the funeral that they want and remember, it isn't just the person who is dying that needs to talk about it. Doctors who are unable to save the life of their patient need to discuss it otherwise it can lead to other complications in their career and in their personal lives. Their inability to cure can be seen as a professional failure and they can lose confidence in their ability to do their job properly.
