Myth. Apparently, or at least in medieval Japan they believe that this is true. Cats are traditionally associated with the underworld and with witchcraft, so many cultures believe that cats have supernatural abilities and in Japan, they believed that they possessed healing powers. This healing power was sourced in one strand of hair on their tail so if you could find it, then your life would be restored. This is why many families would bring in cats to stay with someone who was ill or dying because if they plucked out the hair that had this power, then they wouldn't die.
