10. Getting No Response At All
Well, okay, this is technically Purgatory if we're going to be using our metaphors correctly, but yes, being caught in a state between slowly sinking realistic cynicism, and unbridled, fever-eyed optimism, is one of the worst things you can experiencing when looking for a job. You spend hours working on your resumes and CVs, spend most of your weekends working on online applications, and have enough newsletters flooding in daily to start online kindling. And yet... a lot of the time you hear nothing. You can pour your heart and soul into a job that you think is yours, and then find that no one even bothers to reply, Sometimes you're lucky to receive an automated email, one that confirms that you weren't lucky enough to get even a phone interview, but those are few and far between, leaving you stuck in a place that's beyond desperation and still clinging onto hope. It's awful. The appropriate remedy is ice cream and forgetting you ever applied. Apply as necessary.
