17. "Warts And All" - Oliver Cromwell

Supposedly Cromwell coined the phrase "warts and all" when he was directing artist Sir Peter Lely, who was painting a portrait of England's Lord Protector.

There was no record of the phrase until Horace Walpole wrote about it in 1764, and there appears little to no evidence that Cromwell ever said it.
