20 Horrific Secrets You'll Discover If You Work In Retail

12. Being Told To Always Look Presentable

If you're lucky enough to get to wear your own clothes for your job, there will be some days when you wear something just to feel comfortable (like a pair of jeans) and you'll think that your manager is joking when they tell you to either go home and get changed, or buy something else to wear for your shift. Hoodies are never allowed, which is fair enough but during Winter when the doors are always open, you wear so many layers that you look silly. If you work a delivery shift and can't be bothered putting on a full face of make up at 6am then be prepared for the once over look you'll get from your manager when you head to the shop floor looking 'unpresentable.' if you have a uniform, it's always made from a cheap material that creases as soon as you put it on and because you don't get an allowance to buy your uniform, you don't want to buy shoes or trousers that are overly expensive. This means that you'll buy low quality items which will rip apart after a few weeks and although you know that they need replaced, you'll wait until the soles have came off before you splash out on another of the exact same pair.
